How did you and your significant other meet?

Kelly - I was working in liquor sales and went into a retail store to sell my products. Cody was there to say hello to his friend who worked there. I didn’t see him at the time. When I left, the buyer asked me if he could give his friend my number. We texted a bit and agreed to meet up. Our first date was the first time I saw what he looked like!

As a couple, what are your interests/hobbies? 

We love powerlifting and cooking together. We bike as well but at very different levels!

When did you know your partner was “the one” and you wanted to get married?

Cody - The first date. We ended up at Vesper lounge and I looked over and knew.

What is one of your favorite things about your partner?

Kelly - His drive. Cody works so hard at his business and on himself every day. It makes him an incredible partner who is truly all in.

What was your proposal like (was the ring a surprise or was it collaborative)?

Kelly - I came home on a Tuesday from work and Cody had music playing, balloons set up, roses and a neon sign that said “til death”. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Then made us an amazing dinner and we celebrated! I knew the proposal was coming at some point, but not when because I helped design the ring with Balefire. A Tuesday night definitely caught me off guard and he surprised me!

Tell us about your wedding (if it has happened yet).

Cody - It was everything. We quietly got away for a weekend with our dog to Vail, where I was born. We will have a wedding in 2026, but that weekend where we got married just us was so meaningful.

Why did you decide to work with Balefire?

Kelly - We were working with another Jeweler in Colorado and had a bad experience. A friend told me about Balefire and we went in for a gemstone show on Valentines Day and found the perfect sapphire. From there, Jamie and Bailey were so awesome to work with for the ring design. Cody - Kelly’s constant admiration of the ring shows we went to the right place.

What advice would you give to other couples shopping for wedding or engagement rings?

Go with a company that listens to what you want and doesn’t judge. Also work with people who you get good vibes from!
